About me
I'm Rachel, wife to Cian and Mumma to Ezra. I'm not sure there is much to know about who I am other than I'm a Jesus-centered rural girl with a love for making memories (even though I have a terrible memory) with a small social battery but big aspirations.
Physically, I probably shouldn't be meeting strangers in remote places to take their photos... I'm no gym junkie but I am fit enough to walk anywhere to get the perfect shot. So tell me your ideas!
Hill side through some national park, cool. Big sand dunes by the ocean, even better. Lets go!
Emotionally, I will want to keep taking photos way beyond sunset. I love to get all the shots, all the options, all the angles, because I want you to love your photos. I can't possibly frame all my family photos but I still love having a boat load to look back on or make coffee table books out of. I'll probably get way too invested in your family for the hour we're together and want to take a million photos.
Spiritually, I was once what one would call atheist, turned nihilist (with morals, yeah I know confusing), then dived into new age and opened a business selling crystals and making jewelry, which in turn opened my heart and mind to Jesus. I've walked many paths and sought answers everywhere, but my goodness is God good.
That's why I have named my business Risen Sun. It's like an ode to Jesus being the risen Son. While also referencing light, my own son and my initials.
Why I Do what i do
I began my photography journey years ago because I enjoyed taking photos and thought it would be fun to capture families during all their milestones.
It's only now since having my baby boy that I truly feel the weight of what I do. How important my job is.
I like taking photos, finding beautiful light and getting that perfect angle. But I LOVE freezing a moment! A baby's tiny features for Mum to reminisce on later, Dads playful energy with his young children to look back on when they're grown, the energy of a puppies youth or that moment two people commit to choosing each other forever with a proposal.
This was important to me before, but now I truly know just how fast life moves. First you're learning to breastfeed, next they're walking... I don't even want to imagine the next bits yet, because they'll be the present moment soon enough. My mind just won't keep all the little details alive the way I wish it would, my memory fails me there. That's why I take as many photos and videos as possible.
Though, if you're anything like me, you don't do yourself up on the daily and most of the candid moments, while beautiful in memory, just aren't that beautiful of you. That's why I love regular professional photo shoots. It means I have moments dedicated to capturing my family, their features, their personalities, that I really enjoy looking back on.
